BRHA A Smoke Free Environment

The Burntwood Regional Health Authority is committed to promote and protect health through healthy living strategies, ensuring a healthy work environment and a focus on disease prevention.

Tobacco use is harmful to health and is the leading cause of preventable death in Canada. Second-hand smoke or environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is also harmful to health, thus the BRHA endorses a smoke-Free environment.

There is no-smoking within BRHA facilities, BRHA vehicles, enclosed areas, while performing duties in the client’s home. and on BRHA property. To assist employees to quit smoking, the Workplace Wellness Committee offers:

BRHA Smoking Cessation Program

Option 1 – For Employees and Family Members - No obligation to quit, but may be considering, or trying to quit.

  1. Receive a Free “Quit Smoking Information Kit”. For experienced or first time quitters. Available all year round!
  2. Not requiring financial reimbursement
  3. Buddy not required
Option 2 – For Employees Only. Employees planning to quit may apply for reimbursement for Nicotine Replacement Therapy(NRT)/ other treatment costs eg. patch, gum, Zyban, acupuncture etc. The following criteria must be met:
  1. Sign contract with a buddy.
  2. Stay successfully quit for 3 month period
  3. Submit original cash register or Pharmacare receipts for NRT costs.
In addition, professional counseling is available from the Burntwood Community Health Resource Centre.
