Once you have made the decision to relocate to the Burntwood area, the following assistance will be provided:

Relocation Travel

There are a number of ways to travel to Thompson, the cost of one-way travel for yourself and your immediate family will be covered by the BRHA (as approved in writing ahead of time).

Air travel:

  • The BRHA will coordinate all air travel (and hotel if required)
  • All bookings will be made with 2 week advance notice
  • We will require the names and ages of all travelling family members for ticketing purposes
  • Please retain all receipts for Taxi, airport transfer expenses incurred during your travel in order to receive compensation
  • The BRHA will pay meal costs with a per diem rate of $45.00/day per person
Travel by personal vehicle:
  • The BRHA will pay mileage at a rate of $44.10 /kilometre for your one-way travel from your home (to a maximum value equal to a one-way airfare for one person) to be reimbursed upon your arrival. Mileage should be confirmed prior to your travel.
  • The BRHA will pay meal costs with a per diem rate of $45.00/day per person
Please remember, the BRHA will not cover any unauthorized or unapproved expenses. When in doubt, please ask!

Relocation Allowance - Nursing

The Manitoba Nurses Recruitment and Retention Fund provide relocation costs up to $5000.00 For Nurses.

You may be eligible to receive a conditional grant from the Nurses Recruitment and Retention Fund. If you are a Manitoba nursing graduate and are relocating to a site in the Burntwood Regional Health Authority in the amount of $4000.00.

Relocation of Household Goods

A relocation allowance of up to $5,000 will be made available to you. This would include, but not be limited to moving of household goods, temporary assistance in accommodation rental, etc., plus the cost of travel to relocate to the Burntwood. All expenses for the relocation cost are to be approved by the Chief Human Resources Officer, and will be reimbursed after handing in the receipts or quotes. This allowance is subject to you signing a Return of Service Agreement.

If you choose to leave the employment of the Burntwood Regional Health Authority before the completion of engagement, you will be required to reimburse the Burntwood Regional Health Authority for the unamortized amount of the relocation costs awarded to you, based on amortization of the relocation costs, commencing the initial date of full-time employment. You will be required to sign a Return of Service Agreement and the applicable documentation, which includes a Promissory Note and Employee Declaration and Agreement.

Corporate Accommodations

If required, you may be provided with 3 months short-term accommodation in one of our fully-furnished corporate apartments. There are absolutely no pets allowed in the BRHA apartments. Please note there are no accommodation funds provided in lieu of use of the corporate apartment.

Some amenities:

  • Basic cable and telephone service included (MTS telephone services and SHAW cable services)
  • Calling cards or pre-paid phone cards are required for long distance calls
  • Internet hook-ups are available and is the financial responsibility of the tenant (BRHA library computers are accessible for staff 24 hours/day)
  • All towels and bedding provided
  • Dishes, pots and pans provided
Keep in mind, you will need to move all of your belongings from the apartment within the first 3 months, so please bring only what you need for personal belongings to get yourself started.

Due to the short-term availability, we ask that you do not use the apartment address as your mailing address for Thompson. For this reason, we do not provide mailbox keys. We are not able to collect and distribute mail to tenants once they have left the BRHA apartment. Canada Post Corp. has post office boxes available for rent, as well as change of address services.

The Human Resources Department is available to assist with locating available housing through our contact database, apartment and landlord listings. We encourage you to start your permanent housing search once you arrive, let us know if we can help!

Please consult your local auto, medical and home insurance providers to identify coverage limits and grace periods during your relocation period. Manitoba Health Insurance Benefits Card applications available through the Recruiter.
